Family Values

While Senator Sam Brown Nose Brownback calls for more "family values" (which, with this current crop of Republicans, usually means something far more obscene than how Charlie Manson envisioned and implemented it), the press politely reports that there are "mixed reactions" to Mary Cheney's pregnancy, the third in her union with another woman.

Mary, as you may recall, is often on the government payroll in one way or another, so while Congress tells you your gay son or daughter doesn't deserve any rights, you get to pay for Mary's.

Some of the reactions:

  • "Carrie Gordon Earll, a policy analyst for the conservative Christian ministry Focus on the Family, expressed empathy for the Cheney family but depicted the newly announced pregnancy as unwise."
  • "Janice Crouse of Concerned Women for America described the pregnancy as "unconscionable."

"It's very disappointing that a celebrity couple like this would deliberately bring into the world a child that will never have a father," said Crouse, a senior fellow at the group's think tank. "They are encouraging people who don't have the advantages they have."
" [If you have ever seen or heard one of the people - the majority who seem to be men; Concerned Women is an anti-gay group organized by men - from Concerned Women for America, you probably cracked a rib laughing as hard as I did to hear that they have a think tank."]
