Unfair! Fat Old White Republican Men Don't Always Control Everything

As Alec points out in comments here as well as on his blog (Prose Before Hos), it's a dark and pathetic day when fat old white (almost invariably Republican, I may add) men don't get 103% of all the fatcat positions and money and favors and law-making and... well, read for yourself:

Oh no! Old rich white males are being oppressed again! Sound the alarms!

Males - As of the 2006 congress, 83.7% of the Congress is male, while the percentage of males of the voting age population (18 plus) is only 48.4. If this is further evaluated to include the over-representation of white males, the figure is even more staggering: 36.3% of the voting age population are white males, yet there are 79 White Male senators making up the Senate (79%).

Kudos For The House: Vote Succeeds To Give Washington D.C. Representation

Long past time, but sadly, not a done deal yet either; as reported by Political Wire:

"A bill giving the District its first full seat in Congress cleared the House yesterday, marking the city's biggest legislative victory in its quest for voting rights in nearly three decades," reports the Washington Post.

However, "the bill faces considerable obstacles. Democrats don't appear to have enough votes in the Senate to avoid a filibuster, and the White House has threatened a veto. If the measure becomes law, it probably will be challenged in court."

Can anyone possibly offer a truly legitimate reason that these voters, too long denied and forced to endlessly endure "taxation without representation", should not get a representative?

And have you noticed Bush threatens to veto anything and everything that is constitutionally correct, fair and appropriate?

Texas Rep. Ron Paul Blasts Bush On House Floor

Yes, it is possible for a Vermont progressive to fall in love (well, sort of) with a Texas former Republican (now Indy) - namely Rep. Ron Paul, a doctor, who - thanks to Todd at Blue State for the link to video - blasted Bush on Iraq on the House floor.

I happened to hear Ron on WGDR last Friday on Jim Hogue's "House On Pooh Corner" show and it was enlightening. (Jim's quite a firebrand in his own right, big in the Second Vermont Republic movement to get Vermont the hell out of the U.S.)
