Andrea Dworkin is Dead

Some of you may remember the usually characterized as a radical feminist and author. I remember her chiefly from the 70s when she was one of the strong voices of the feminism movement along with Betty Friedan and others at a time when those of us still in grade and high school were lobbying for the right to wear slacks in school. It's been just a generation since that right was fought for and won.

I love watching movies that depict the 70s because they're always showing kids in high school wearing jeans, including the girls. But in many schools in the nation, this was simply not allowed. Many schools even had edicts - some imposed, some not - against the wearing of jeans at all because these were still seen by the "oldsters" as indicative of smelly farm attire.

Funny this comes to mind now when the so-called Culture War is trying to forcibly return us all to a time when slacks and jeans weren't allowed, when girls were still seen largely as possessions upon whom big and important white men had to act as the societal parent, when it was more important to pretend that kids didn't have sex than to educate them about the dangers inherent and how to protect themselves against such dangers through the use of science and good sense.
