Why Will the US Subsidize The Israeli Destruction of Lebanon?

OK, let's say I believe that Israel ONLY went into Lebanon to go after Hezbollah.

Even given that, there was NO need for the destruction of nearly the entire Lebanese infrastructure and the grave negligence (at best) toward Lebanese civilian life, with more than 30% of the dead being children.

So why is the U.S. hemming and hawing about giving even just a petty $30 million to Lebanon (to rebuild the entire infrastructure???) while it is now almost a given that the Bush Administration will give - at Israel's request - up to or exceeding $2 Billion (that's with a B) to Israel to help defray its costs in leveling Lebanon?

To do this is insane. To do this also proves the point that Israel was just the front man for a Bush proxy war in yet another Arab-oriented country.
