The Rapture Is Coming And I Didn't Even Have Time to Bake a Cake

I posted last week about how August 22nd is one of the "end times" days being spouted by many, including both fringe and not-so-fringe Christians, as the day when Israel will be attacked and lead to the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse "rapture-seeking" armageddon scenario. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that this has become one of the most frequently used search phrases from search engines like Google and Yahoo.

If there is anything "to" this belief, than we only have about seven more days to shop, eat, and otherwise live. Except that there is a 99.9999999999999999% chance (if not far more), that this date is as much hooey as any of the other "beginning of the end" dates I've read and heard about since my school days.

As you can imagine, August 22nd has commanded a bit of attention because of the events in the Middle East. While rarely calm and quiet, the past 35 days or so have been pretty wild and whacky with Hezbollah kidnapping soldiers, then Israel attacking Lebanon, and then Hezbollah shooting rockets at Israel, while Israel decided to lay waste to a sovereign nation. Let's face it, Israel and its neighbors have always been more volatile than anything the Hatfields and the McCoys ever cooked up. But this latest unrest has been one of the most serious and deadly since the U.S. and England dreamed up the notion of putting the created state of Israel right dab in the middle of Arab territories where it was guaranteed to be unpopular.

See my next post for what I believe matters most about this date of August 22nd.
