Cynthia Tucker: It's Easier to Denounce Illegal Immigrants than Illegal Hiring Practices

The AJC's Cynthia Tucker - a woman I have long regarded as one of the most intelligent voices to grace an oped page and one too little seen on TV opinion panels these days - speaks a much overlooked truth: that is it much easier for people (especially Republicans pandering to a hateful base) to denounce illegal immigrants than it is to put the blame where it more appropriately lies: bosses and companies who increase their profits by hiring undocumented workers rather than pay real wages to legals.

The Bushies and the Republican majority on Capitol Hill have been particularly egregious about looking the other way to those companies who make it a regular practice to hire illegals while expending all their energy trying to go after poor desperate people who risk their lives to cross the border to take shit jobs here.
