Hurray for Rutland VT But Why Are We Spying on the Homeless?

Vermont blogger extraordinaire Morgan Brown brings us this story, which begs the question why the government needs to spy on the homeless:

Once I was finally able to get online during the early afternoon for the first time today, I came across an article within the Rutland Herald concerning how the staff and residents at the Rutland Open Door Mission have taken a stand against participating in Government snooping on people staying at the local homeless shelter or otherwise seeking related services there, which would not only include personal identifying information and data on each individual, but said information would be transmitted and available via the Internet ( here )
Do we think al Qaeda is housing its jihadists in homeless shelters? Are they planning to strap suicide bombs onto shopping carts and free soup cups?

What the hell?
