Yesterday was a Terrible Day in America

And no, not just because the president returned.

Thousands of United employees stood by helplessly while a judge - the very kind of judge Bush wants on ALL benches - set aside the pension agreements promised to those workers by United Airlines. A few weeks ago, we watched as Congress and Bush pushed through a bankruptcy reform that would hurt the poor indelibly. But yesterday, a major corporation, who made these promises of pension contributions in writings, promises these people depended on, was told they did NOT have to live up to their financial responsibilities. Why? Because well-heeled people want to fly to Europe round trip for under $200.

Another court dismissed a lawsuit that would have forced the VP Dick Cheney to reveal who helped him cook up the energy policy (think Enron, Unocal, and others).

And the death rate among US soldiers in Iraq was finally reported to exceed 1600.
