I did a bit of poking around about the Plame exposure awhile back, as have a few others (Larisa Alexandrovna of Raw Story was the one who first broke the news that Plame was working on Iranian nuclear capabilities). A certain theory came to mind that you might find interesting and it goes far beyond merely exposing Plame out of a need to discredit WIlson.

However, after it was revealed that Cheney had written notes on the Wilson op-ed, it sure looked like perhaps retribution against Wilson may have actually been the prime directive. I would agree that it is very hard to know. But what reinforces that larger picture is that a few seriously well-connected people (Hersh for example) have indicated that Iran has always been the primary goal of the Neocon vision after all.
