McCain Doesn't Agree with War Memo; I Don't Agree with McCain

John McCain has been well on the way to being irrelevant for some time. This is sad, as a similar downward track has been with John Kerry, because these were men who once stood for something, had shown far more cajones than most of DC (who spent Vietnam and since partying hearty), and used to be respected and trusted.

So forgive me for yawning tonight when I saw this on CNN:

Sen. John McCain said Sunday he doesn't "agree with" the secret minutes of a high-level British meeting in 2002 saying "intelligence and facts were being fixed" to support a U.S.-led war in Iraq -- well before the president sought approval on the war from Congress.

The memo was made public earlier this month by the Times of London newspaper. British officials did not dispute its authenticity.

McCain, speaking on ABC's "This Week," said he has not seen any evidence that the Bush administration manipulated evidence, but admitted that "certain serious mistakes [were] made."

"But I do not believe that the Bush administration decided that they would set up a scenario that gave us the rationale for going into Iraq," the Arizona Republican said.

The Bush administration still has not commented on the memo. On May 6, 89 Democratic members of Congress sent President Bush a letter asking for an explanation of the memo. (Full story)

Even if you set aside the fact that McCain seems to go on and off his psychotropic meds at random will, it doesn't matter one bit if McCain agrees or not. It's sad, in fact, that he felt he had to weigh in when I doubt he possesses any real knowledge, one way or another.

The Bushies' silence has been deafening and I think more of the world (if not Koolaid drinking Americans) believe the memo than believe McCain considering how frequently he jettisons all principles to butt kiss George Bush who is NOT his equal, let alone his better.

And if you want to read the memo, go here.
