Deliberate Misinterpretation? Perhaps

Reading a comment here tonight as well as some emails received in the last few days, I frequently get the reaction that "you want to protect the vicious Hezbollah" as the reason I have been so critical of Israel's actions in Lebanon.

As I've written, if Israel were just targetting Hezbollah, you wouldn't see all these posts from me. I have no affection for any group (Christian, Islamic, Zionist, or other ideological bent) that wants to wipe out another group just for their religion, their viewpoint, their way of life, et al.

For those of you who think I'm "supporting" Hezbollah, I ask you this. If Israel or the U.S. decided that your community had a few "terrorists" living among you, would you be fine if either country sent in massive air strikes to level your schools and banks, wipe out your power plants and roads and hospitals, kill your family members and neighbors, and make virtually everyone else who survived the direct attacks into an unwitting refugee who, in the process of fleeing, finds themselves under yet more air attacks? Would it be fine with you if the aid trying to reach you is deliberately kept away? Fine if, even though most of the rest of the world condemns these military actions, the attackers refuse to discuss a cease fire?

Because this is the situation in Lebanon. Unless you want a world where it's fine if anyone at anytime decides to come in and destroy your entire nation in pursuit of a relatively few number of bad guys, you should be concerned about what is happening in Lebanon - and yes, Gaza, too - as well.

Israel does it because the U.S. has done it, and now Turkey and a few other countries see this "doctrine" as an excuse to launch their own actions.
