Left Bloggy Reparations
This is a riot from That Colored Fella who gives us a new perspective on the dominant link hierarchy and the silly, pointless handwringing over the "well, I'd link to more women if they said anything interesting but we all know that guys are just more insightful" debate that goes around the blogosphere every few months like a bad case of strep. Tip of the virtual hat to Amanda at Pandagon for the referral.
A nibble, if you will:
Knowing my acknowledged right to seek redress within the blogsphere may be in jeopardy given the current political climate, TCF had no choice but to use this forum to address an injustice I have suffered. And I thought my English/Irish/Scottish and Native American plus my religious Catholic/Episcopalian/and-lets-not-forget-the-holy-rollers side heritage was confusing.
In light of the serious re-evaluation and assessment of the Lefty blogsphere that has broken out on many fronts recently, certain irrefutable (some uncomfortable) truths have come to light. Most notably, we’ve learned that our Blue State share of the web is dominated by predominantly White and/or male bloggers. As a result, some have asserted that these popular and influential ‘Whales’ have operated as an ‘old boys club’, dismissing and failing to promote other unappreciated, credible voices among us.
TCF now realizes he may have done himself a real disservice then, by naming his blog That Colored Fellas weblog. By initially casting myself as a non-Caucasian blogger, I now realize I failed to take advantage of certain ‘privileges’ afforded me by my true ethnic background.
You see, TCF is of mixed ethnicity, or as TCF Sr. would say, ‘colored’. My father was one-half Black and one-half Seminole Indian, while my mother was one-half Black and one-half Jewish.
Plus his entire month of December is booked solid with holidays, whereas I just have Christmas and the tree lighting at Rockefeller Center for religious observances that month.
