As Foreigners Evacuate Lebanon, Can Death Toll Do Anything But Rise?
WaPo's most recent update on the Israel-Lebanon-Hezbollah conflict raises a few questions.
First, notice that the first note of a civilian death count is fairly far down in the piece, noting that of 100 rockets launched into Israeli, one civilian died. So are we to believe NO civilians died in Lebanon or Israeli's renewed violence in Gaza? Doubtful. Again, the media seems to make a distinction between Israeli and Muslim-centric deaths; one counts while the other isn't always worth a mention.
Second, apparently Israel toned down operations in Lebanon to allow for some of the evacuations. But is there any doubt Lebanon will get pounded like never before once Westerners and Europeans get out? Sadly, I have little doubt whatsoever. The seven Canadians who died the other day got more attention than the 200+ mostly Muslim civilians who died before them.
Third, what does it say about the difference in fire power if Israel can kill so many with one strike, yet 100 rockets fired by Hezbollah kill one? It says Israel is fighting with the best American made killing machines we can give to them, while Hezbollah is equipped with the equivalent of pea-shooters, perhaps. The Palestinians in Gaza don't even have pea-shooters.
Fourth, remember that for all the talk of Iran and Syria equipping Hezbollah, 90-95% of the killing machines Israel packs and uses are American made, many of them "gifts" of the U.S. taxpayers. If you don't notice this, be sure those in Muslim countries do.
