God In The Poll Numbers

While all the emphasis on "what American should do" only seems to address the really radically to the right evangelicals, here's a poll I heard about yesterday (I'm struggling to find the link again but I recall seeing it on news.yahoo.com after I read it elsewhere):

42% of Americans either do not believe in God or seriously question His/Her existence

Now, I happen to believe, although I do not see God as the angry, vengeful, master of slave humans I was raised by Catholics/Episcopals/Evangelicals to envision. No, God is a force and he (my God doesn't require capital letters) expects us to do a lot better with the brains and free will he gave us than most of us do!
