Speaking of The Gipper
Speaking of Mr. Reagan, Ron (the younger) has alluded several times on his MSNBC show to participating in the decision mostly made by Nancy to terminate aggressive care (and here, he's never provided great detail that I've heard) for his dad.
So let me see if I have this right:
- * Compassionate conservatives (and there again, I think the "conservative" label is applied these days to many people who are not conservatives, distorting what a conservative is when I don't believe that true conservatism in and of itself is anywhere near as extreme as the hardly-ever-right wing (there I go borrowing from my favorite bush kangaroo, Skippy) are allowed to make life-and-death decisions for their families, but...
* Non-"compassionate conservatives" cannot make this decision for themselves and instead require the intervention of governors, presidents, and Congress.
And continuing in this vein:
- * The spouses of people like Tom DeLay's dad and Ronald Reagan should have the sanctity of their marriages upheld when they pull the plug, BUT...
* The spouses of people like a dead VA man whose widow was profiled on ABC news tonight and Mrs. Schiavo should not.
