Is it me or is this year's run on the HBO show very... uh... contemporaneous with things going on in the country now?

Now, I wasn't a regular viewer until the very tail end of last season so it could have been going along these lines for sometime. But everything from the preacher character to the Ralph Waite preacher to Ben's newly discovered talents, et al, seems familiar in a dark way.
