Let's End a Myth About Lebanon

Again and again in the U.S. and Israeli press and TV news junkets, I read or hear, "The only people left in (South) Lebanon are terrorists."

Not true. Not by a long shot.

The sick and the poor remained but so too did many people who, having heard about refugees being shot and bombed, decided to stay. Others stayed because they did not want their land "stolen" by Israel as Israel has assumed other property in the past. Still others stayed to provide emergency relief (medical and otherwise) to those who did not have the option to evacuate.
